this is a collection of sounds & sketches recorded over the past year. i approach music making / patching as meditation, so i suppose u could also call this a collection of meditations.. i hesitate to call these compositions, rather reflections of the energies we passed thru in these moments. made almost exclusively using eurorack & field recordings.
'what will survive' of us was the first song i ever recorded & features my dear friend abby reading. the drone that crawls underneath ran for a couple of weeks during the height of the stress of summer 2020. we called it forever drone lol. i 'performed' some field recordings + the poem around / on top of it to capture before dispatching
'jogashima before typhoon' (along with 'when the suns heat fades') was recorded w the intent of continuing explorations of voice, field recordings, and synthesis, and to eventually become a set along with 'what will survive of us'. recorded early in 2021, i feel it reflects the calm before the storm that everyone seemed to feel to some degree heading into the new year. it depicts an endless liminal space.
'when the suns heat fades' was recorded not long after & features several poems of the ogura hyakunin isshu. very much a continuation of the emotions and energies of 'jogashima' as they dissolved more and more into freneticism.
'walking thru snow' is a tale of death, of the last cries of spirit leaving this plane, the moments when perception of life fades in and out. this generative patch ran for several weeks, including when my father passed due to covid, right up until we had our power cut during the tx winter storms. this song is not specifically meant for or abt any particular person, but is a reflection on how death has inhabited all of our spaces for the last couple of years. altho not a performance or originally indented to be included in a set like the first three songs of this collection, this continues my explorations into synthesized drones & manipulated field recordings as meditation.
"i remember u" & 'ive believed ill believe again' both come from the exact same patch just abt a week and a half apart. theyre both reflections on grief, trust, & distance.

A wonderful sonic journey. This album begs to be listened to front to back on a good pair of headphones. It’s reminiscent of some of the science fiction that I read as a kid…….. the previously unwritten score to some of those great stories. Adam Kocher
